HARIKE WETLANDS AND BIRD SANCTUARY
"Hari - ke - Pattan"
Believed to be one of the larger man-made wetlands, Harike Wetland and Bird Sanctuary is located on the border of Tam Taran Sahib district. It covers a land area of 4100 hectares and spreads over the prominent cities of Amritsar, Kapurthala and Ferozepur.
The major striking feature of this wetland is the Harike Lake which attracts a flock of tourists to this place along with a bird sanctuary. A paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers, this wetland is one of the most exciting places to visit in Punjab to spot many exotic and endangered birds.
Some of the popular birds and fauna found here include crested pochard, river dolphin, smooth coated otter, Indian wild boar etc. It is also hailed as Ramsar Site by the International Body of Wetlands under the UNDP in the year 1990. You can take permission from the forest department to visit this gorgeous lake and enjoy the beautiful panoramas.
